Treatment for chronic hepatitis C has evolved rapidly from an interferon based regimen of modest efficacy with significant adverse events to a well-tolerated, highly effective all-oral directly acting antiviral therapy. Specifically, the combination therapy sofosbuvir and velpatasvir offers a pangenotypic regimen with high sustained viral response. Availability of this highly efficacious, well tolerated, all oral regimen formulated as a single pill, can potentially simplify hepatitis C treatment.
