Fenofibrate significantly reduces CV events in diabetics with metabolic syndrome: Analysis of FIELD study

To evaluate the effect of fenofibrate on cardiovascular (CV) events in diabetics with metabolic syndrome.

Analysis of Fenofibrate Intervention and Event Lowering in Diabetes (FIELD) study

Type 2 diabetics with metabolic syndrome (N=8183)

Fenofibrate 200 mg/day (N=4080) vs. placebo (N=4103)

5 years

Incidence of CV events

Fenofibrate significantly reduced the risk of CV events in patients with hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia and/or low HDL (Figure 1)

Fenofibrate was also effective in primary prevention of CV events in patients of metabolic syndrome or its components (Figure 2)
