DETAIL
Aim
To evaluate the long term renoprotective effect of telmisartan and enalapril in type 2 diabetic patients
Study Patients
Type 2 diabetes and early nephropathy [N=250]
Study Groups
- Telmisartan [N=120] vs. enalapril [N=130]
Study Duration
5 years
Efficacy Endpoints
- Decline rate of glomerular filtration ratio (GFR)
Result
- Treatment with Telmisartan for 5 years showed no significant change in GFR when compared to enalapril
Figure 1. Changes from Baseline in the Glomerular Filtration Rate, Based on Analyses of the Last Observation Carried Forward (Panel A) and Complete Five-Year Data (Panel B), According to Treatment Group.
The vertical bars represent the standard deviation.
- Change in BP, GFR and urinary albumin excretion rate was similar in both groups.
-
No differences in changes in serum creatinine
Telmisartan offers renoprotection clinically equivalent to that enalapril in type 2 diabetic patients
