ObesityWeek 2025: Highlights from Day 4
Physical Activity Patterns Among Adults Taking Glucagon-like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists
Presenter: Kacey Chae
This retrospective observational study (2018–2022) used NIH All of Us cohort data to assess physical activity in adults (≥18 years) taking various GLP-1 receptor agonists and having valid fitness tracker data.
Among 301 participants, Mean daily physical activity time was 204 minutes (SD 76), with injectable semaglutide linked to higher activity. Moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) averaged 24 minutes/day (SD 21); only 42% met ≥150 minutes/week. MVPA was negatively associated with older age, female gender, type-2 diabetes mellitus, and lower income. Mean daily step count was 5,944 (SD 2,699), influenced by income. Sedentary time averaged 947 minutes/day (SD 189), with no significant demographic or clinical associations. Most participants were sedentary for ~16 hours/day. Findings highlight the need for targeted physical activity interventions and suggest that injectable semaglutide may support more active lifestyles.
