IRIS Trial
Objective
To compare the lipid-lowering effects of rosuvastatin as compared to atorvastatin in South-Asian patients.
Patient Population
N=740; Patients of South-Asian origin with dyslipidemia and at high risk of coronary heart disease.
Study Design
Patients were randomized to receive 1 of the 4 treatment options once-daily: Rosuvastatin 10 or 20 mg and Atorvastatin 10 or 20 mg.
Study Duration
6 weeks
Results
- Rosuvastatin resulted in greater improvement in lipid parameters as compared to atorvastatin.
- There were no clinically relevant differences between statins in adverse events or incidence of CK>10 times the ULN, liver enzymes>3 times the ULN on 2 consecutive occasions, or proteinuria or hematuria during treatment.
Conclusion
Rosuvastatin therapy was effective and well tolerated in patients of South-Asian origin.
