- Biologics like dupilumab, mepolizumab, and omalizumab significantly improved symptoms and immune markers in refractory Allergic Fungal Rhinosinusitis (AFRS)
- A meta-analysis showed reduced nasal symptoms, endoscopic scores, eosinophil counts, and IgE levels
- All the 3 biologics improved SNOT-22 and endoscopic scores, and seem promising alternatives for patients unresponsive to conventional treatments.
- In 322,922 UK Biobank participants (age: 38–73), 9.69% had MACEs during 13.7 yr of follow-up [non-users: 8.32%, users of cholesterol-lowering drugs (users): 18.6%]
- Each SD increase in LDL-C, Lp(a), & Hs-CRP raised MACE risk by 13%, 8%, 6% (non-users) & 11%, 7%, 6% (users)
- All 3 biomarkers >75th percentile conferred 77% (non-users) & 58% (users) higher risk; biomarker levels predicted risk more than medication use.
Individuals with depression are at a higher risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), as per NHANES analysis of 14,492 adults. Depression increased OSA risk by 31% (OR 1.31), with the strongest effect observed in those without insomnia (OR 1.65). Major OSA predictors in depressed individuals included BMI, age, hypertension, sex, marital status, caffeine and alcohol consumption, and dietary fat.
- N=465,717 children/adolescents (<21 yrs) post-COVID infection. 12.5% had reinfection during Omicron period
- Post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) diagnosis rate: 903.7/million (1st infection) vs 1883.7/million (2nd infection).
- Reinfection doubled PASC risk (RR 2.08). It also significantly increased range of many symptoms and conditions related to PASC (RR range 1.15–3.60)
